On mental wealth, medals, and loneliness

Thank you! I’m grateful you tuned into what I share in this newsletter. I want to share a recent experience and food for thought to kick things off.

In January, I completed the Miami Marathon in 6 hours, 55 minutes, and 53 seconds. The course was amazing and challenging, both mentally and physically. I keep the finisher medal hanging near the desk in my office. Training for and completing the race was a significant mental wealth deposit.

What’s a mental wealth deposit? Mental wealth deposits are the intentional thoughts, behaviors, and experiences someone uses to positively impact the state of their mental health. Collectively, all of your mental wealth deposits are your mental wealth. Mental wealth compounds in the same way as financial wealth. This week, I had to dig into the reserves of my mental wealth.

The mental wealth deposits from the marathon helped me as I started a new business marathon…the launch of Mental Wealth Training with Anthony Ware.

The reserves from the marathon race, including the memories and the medal, helped me work through some heavy mental blocks. Now, I can create a brave and safe space for the new members and clients.

Are You Aware?

Are you aware of the impact of loneliness and isolation on your health and the people in your life?

“Our epidemic of loneliness and isolation has been an underappreciated public health crisis that has harmed individual and societal health. Our relationships are a source of healing and well-being hiding in plain sight – one that can help us live healthier, more fulfilled, and more productive lives,” said U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy

Consequences of poor or insufficient connection:

  • 29% increased risk of heart disease
  • 32% increased risk of stroke
  • 50% increased risk of developing dementia for older adults

Consequences of lacking social connection:

  • 60% increased risk of premature death

The data is specific to the USA and reflects what’s happening as the reality of a post-pandemic world unfolds.

Remember who you are Do you remember who you are? One of the first things I do when working with new clients is to ask them to reflect on their lives, focusing on the great and challenging moments. At first, they have trouble deciding what to include, but once we get going, the memories flow. This practice helps you remember who you are when working and the world makes you feel out of alignment, overwhelmed, burnt out, or worse. Today, we’ll focus on the great moments. A great moment can be...
